The International Education Institute(IEI) of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine (HUCM) was established in 1981. Known as “The National Base for CM International Exchange and Cooperation”, “The Test Base for Clinical Skills in the National Licensed Doctors Test Catering to Overseas Personnel” and “The International Acupuncture Training Center of Hunan, China”, the IEI was among the the first accredited CM institutes to recruit international students, overseas Chinese students and students from HK,Macao & Taiwan. With the approvement of the State Administration of TCM of the PRC, it is qualified to provide CM continuing education to the international students.
     The International Education Institute (also known as the International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the Hongkong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs Office), the former International Office founded in the early years of the 1980s, undertakes the task of International exchange, education and projects as well as talents recruitment and the regulation of foreign affairs. In the past 30 years, the IEI of HUCM has fostered more than 1000 overseas students with education backgrounds ranging from junior college to doctor. More than 700 short-term students from 30 countries or regions prefer to study and do research in HUCM, including the international acupuncture trainees from 7 terms of the UN Multilateral Cooperation Programmes. Students of HUCM could be found all over the world. We sent 5 batches of doctors to participate in China’s medical assistance to Tanzania and Zimbabwe etc. Medical cooperative ties were built with countries or regions like Russia, Malaysia, Switzerland, England and HK, Macao and Taiwan in China. The medical cooperation project with Russia has sucessfully gone through 9 consecutive years while the cooperation with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is marching forward towards the 11th anniversary. More than 10,000 patients benefit from our international projects.
      The IEI has two international students’ buildings located in two closely interrelated campuses(Hanpu and Dondtang Campus) . There are more than 300 International students and 5 foreign teachers in the institute. We have employed more than 100 foreign experts to work in HUCM and carried out a number of international cooperation projects.
     The IEI has sucessfully carried out a number of impressive exchange programmes, such as “TheRoot-seeking Trip for Hunan Offsprings in Taiwan”in 2010,“The Summer Camp Attended by Taiwan Students Financed by Song Qingling     Foundation” in 2011,  Hunan Provincial Governor Mr. Xu Shousheng’s visit to Taiwan Alumni Associaltion of HUCM in 2012 as well as Taiwan Exchange Programmes sponsered by Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and HK Exchange Programmes sponsered by the Ministry of Education.With all these achievements, the IEI of HUCM won full praise and recognition from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Foreign Affairs Office of Hunan Province, The Education Department of Hunan Province, Taiwan Affairs Office of Hunan Province, Hunan Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and Changsha Public Security Bureau etc.
